What is the need of pharmacovigilance in India?

The issue of drug safety is becoming even more important as the global effort to promote patient safety as clinical research industry has increased the pace. The science of pharmacovigilance aims to reduce the possibility of patient damage from drug interactions in clinical trials. The potential and difficulties are significant in India, which is also prevalent in several countries. Thus, many training facilities are offering pharmacovigilance courses to help individuals emphasize on patient safety.

According to studies done in prosperous nations, the majority of drug-related issues can be avoided. Participants who participate in the pharmacovigilance courses learn about the proper dosage of the drugs, their side effects, and how to use them. Thus, there are numerous methods to define and explain the pharmacovigilance training provided in pharmacovigilance courses. Instead of teaching readers how to use medications more securely, these pharmacovigilance courses focus on educating graduate professionals who are interested in learning about patient and safety procedures.

Participants must have either completed their UG/PG in pharmacy or their graduation or post-graduation in chemistry with an overall grade point average of at least 50% in order to enroll in the pharmacovigilance courses. New medications and vaccinations are given to populations that have never received them before in a variety of PHBs, including those for malaria, HIV/AIDS, and immunization. Many PHBs clearly need to upgrade their pharmacovigilance operations, which calls for methodology and data analysis training. The demand for pharmacovigilance activities necessitate that students participate in pharmacovigilance courses.

A new demand for pharmacovigilance expertise has emerged in the industry as a result of the recent legal requirement that pharmaceutical companies report suspected ADRs from clinical trials conducted in India to the regulatory body. We can see that there are several training facilities offering pharmacovigilance courses.

The field of pharmacovigilance is still quite young. It is not a discipline in academia that is well-established. All the abilities required in pharmacovigilance are not currently included in the curriculum of training programs for careers in clinical medicine, clinical pharmacy, clinical pharmacology, or medical biology. Only a small number of universities worldwide provide specialized pharmacovigilance courses.

Conclusion- Pharmacovigilance courses are a challenging discipline that presents excellent prospects for lowering patient harm and healthcare system expenditures. From humble beginnings, pharmacovigilance significantly helps in improvement of the country's health with the correct information and abilities.
